Crime Prevention
The prevention of crime on campus is a top priority. The Police Department supports a proactive crime prevention unit that works closely with community members to make UCSD a safer place. The crime prevention unit gives presentations on topics such as personal safety, vehicle and residential security, office and equipment security, and rape prevention. Brochures and literature on crime prevention and personal safety are available through the Police Department Crime Prevention Office and the Student Safety Awareness program. Throughout the year, the Crime Prevention Officer along with the Director of the Student Safety Awareness Program compile and publish information on the most recent crime trends. They also present self-defense and personal safety workshops and many other crime awareness programs throughout the year.

Several programs have been designed to increase the level of crime awareness and campus safety at UCSD. Incidents which pose a threat to the campus are brought to the attention of the community through the University Community Alert Bulletin and the campus newspaper, The UCSD Guardian. In addition, the Police Department also uses campus electronic mail to quickly disseminate critical information.
