PATROL DIVISION

Patrol is the largest division in the police department. Uniformed patrol is both an entry-level job and a career path that many officers follow to retirement. The duties include protecting life and property, investigating crimes and collisions, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, processing evidence, testifying in court, and providing other safety services as needed.

The UCSD Police "Patrol Division" has three sergeants, four corporals and ten officers assigned to three squads who work around the clock, 365 days a year. Patrol officers are the uniformed officers you may have seen driving cars, motorcycles and bicycles on and around the campus. They are the first responders to calls regarding criminal activity, fire alarms, medical aids, and other campus emergencies.

The uniformed patrol officers are the primary representatives of a police department. We have always encouraged a close working relationship between our officers and members of the community so we can address specific safety needs or concerns in an effective and timely manner.
